Obverse description Square klippe flan struck in high relief, oriented on point. The central field bears a five-line Latin inscription reading IV / BILAEVUM / ARGENTORA / TENSE / 1617, rendered in bold Roman capitals and referencing the fourth centenary jubilee of the city of Strasbourg. The inscription is framed within a diamond-shaped inner border composed of ornate interlaced strapwork and foliate arabesques, with small floral rosette ornaments at the four corners. The overall design is characteristic of the elaborate German Renaissance decorative style employed for commemorative klippe coinage.
