Obverse description Central device depicts a lit candle set in a candlestick, symbolizing the light of the Reformation, with a hand descending from the upper right to shield the flame, a motif representing divine protection of the Lutheran faith. Radiating rays of light emanate from behind the candle, enhancing the devotional character of the composition. The entire design is rendered in a baroque allegorical style within a plain inner field. A beaded border encircles the design. The circular legend ECCLESIA NORICA IUBILANS (The Nuremberg Church Rejoices) runs along the periphery, referencing the bicentenary celebration of the Reformation in 1717.
