Obverse description The city arms of Lübeck depicted as a double-headed imperial eagle with wings displayed, each head surmounted by a crown, the whole topped by a single imperial crown with cross finial. On the breast of the eagle is an escutcheon bearing the checkered arms of Lübeck. Below the eagle, a smaller shield displays a running horse or similar heraldic beast, serving as a secondary civic emblem. The circular Latin legend LUBECA IUBLILANS runs around the periphery of the field.
