| Obverse description | Left-facing draped bust of a crowned female allegorical figure occupying the central field, wearing an elaborate ornate crown. The Olympic rings appear below the bust. The inscription TOKYO is arranged vertically to the left of the portrait, while the date 1964 is arranged vertically to the right, with the letter G appearing below the final digit, all in raised relief against a polished field. |

| Reverse description | A large ornate cross pattée with foliate terminals dominates the central field, its four arms adorned with stylized oak or acanthus leaf sprays. At the centre of the cross, a small circular cartouche bears the denomination I DUCAT in raised lettering. The fineness mark 980 appears at the lower portion of the cross. The surrounding legend PRO PROSPERITATE MUNDI arcs across the upper field, while AUREUS MAGNUS arcs across the lower field, both separated by raised dot stops at either side. |
