The text reads D.O.M. / OB / VER. DOCTR. CHRIST / ECCLESIAE / CC. ABHINC. ANN / VINDICE. LVTHERO / FELIC. RESTITVTA, meaning 'To God the Best and Greatest, because the true doctrine of the Christian Church was happily restored 200 years ago by Luther as its champion.' The date appears in the penultimate line in Roman numeral form CIↄ IↄCC XVII, followed by the mintmaster's initials HCH in the exergue.
