| Obverse description | Draped bust of Duke August William of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel facing right, with long flowing curled wig characteristic of the early 18th-century baroque style. The portrait is rendered in high relief with fine detail in the periwig curls and lace-trimmed drapery at the truncation. A mintmaster's initial 'S' appears below the bust truncation. The surrounding legend reads AUGUST WIL H D G DUX BR & L S, separated from the effigy by a finely milled border. |

| Reverse description | Seven-line Latin commemorative inscription filling the field, celebrating the 200th anniversary of the Augsburg Confession of 1530. A decorative floral ornament appears at the top of the field above the inscription, and a small ornament below the final line. The text is arranged in even horizontal lines across the flat field with no portrait or figurative device, following the convention of commemorative ducat reverses of the period.
