Obverse description Draped bust of Duke August William of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel facing right, with long flowing curled wig characteristic of the early 18th-century baroque style. The portrait is rendered in high relief with fine detail in the periwig curls and lace-trimmed drapery at the truncation. A mintmaster's initial 'S' appears below the bust truncation. The surrounding legend reads AUGUST WIL H D G DUX BR & L S, separated from the effigy by a finely milled border.
