| Aanvullende informatie |
Anselm Casimir Wamboldt of Wollrath became Archbishop-Elector of Mainz in 1629, inheriting a diocese already being torn apart by the Thirty Years' War. By the time this ducat was struck, Mainz had been occupied by Swedish forces, the city's finances were in ruins, and Wamboldt himself had spent years in exile. Gold coinage from his tenure is correspondingly scarce — the archbishopric simply lacked the institutional stability to mint with any regularity.
He died in 1647, never seeing the Peace of Westphalia that finally ended the war the following year.
