Obverse description Panoramic cityscape of Ratisbon (Regensburg) as seen from the Danube, depicting the walled city with its prominent church towers, spires, and fortifications along the riverbank, with several boats and vessels on the water in the foreground. Above the cityscape, an all-seeing eye within a radiant triangle (the Eye of Providence) emits rays of light into the field. The city name RATISBONA appears in the lower exergue, with the mintmaster initials G.C.B. (or C.C.B. as visible on the coin) below, and the Latin legend SIBI CONSCIA RECTI arching around the upper rim.

Additional information

Regensburg's status as a Free Imperial City ended abruptly in 1803 when the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss — the imperial recess that dissolved over a hundred ecclesiastical and secular territories to compensate German princes for French annexations west of the Rhine — absorbed it into the newly created Prince-Primate's state under Karl von Dalberg. Ducats struck in the final years of this window carry the authority of a city that had been hosting the Immerwährender Reichstag, the permanently sitting Imperial Diet, since 1663.

The city's coinage rights effectively ceased with mediatization in 1806, making this a terminal issue for a mint with medieval roots.
