| Aanvullende informatie |
Augsburg's municipal gold coinage in the mid-eighteenth century was tied directly to the city's role as a major financial hub of the Holy Roman Empire — home to the Fugger and Welser banking dynasties generations earlier, and still a clearing center for imperial debt by the 1760s. The city exercised its minting rights jealously, producing ducats to the Reichsgolddukat standard that circulated well beyond municipal boundaries into the broader German trade network.
1767 falls within a period of relative political stability for Augsburg before the upheavals of the Napoleonic reorganization that would strip it of free city status in 1806.
