Obverse description The obverse displays the crowned double-headed Imperial eagle of Frankfurt, rendered in high relief against a flat field, with wings spread and heads facing outward in heraldic fashion. The eagle holds sceptre and orb in its talons, serving as the civic arms of the Free Imperial City. Encircling the central device is the Latin legend NOMEN DOMINI TURRIS FORTISSIMA (The name of the Lord is a most strong tower), drawn from Proverbs 18:10, running along the inner border. The rim is dressed with a finely executed milled or grained border, characteristic of the high-quality Frankfurt Mint production of the early eighteenth century.
