Obverse description The obverse displays the arms of the Free City of Bremen: a crowned shield bearing a silver key on a red field, supported on either side by a rampant lion. The heraldic composition is rendered in high relief in the baroque style. The circular legend MONETA NOVA REIPUB BREMENSIS is divided around the upper and lower periphery, with the date MDCCXXIII appearing in the exergue below the shield. The dentilated border frames the design on all sides.
