The duarius — a denomination unique to Hungary — survived well into Leopold I's reign largely because small silver fractions remained essential for everyday transactions in territories still economically disrupted by decades of Ottoman conflict. By the 1690s, Habsburg forces had pushed the Ottomans out of most of Hungary, but the monetary infrastructure was slow to follow. These tiny coins, struck at multiple Hungarian mints across the issue period, show considerable variation in die alignment and flan preparation, which accounts for the multiple catalog references spanning H#1499 through H#1502.
