| Obverse description | The heraldic griffin of Rostock, rampant to the left, occupies the central field, rendered in a bold if somewhat crude hammered style typical of early 17th-century municipal copper coinage. The creature is depicted with outstretched wings and raised forepaw, serving as the civic arms of the city. A circular Latin legend surrounds the central device, reading CIVIT : ROSTOCK, identifying the issuing authority. The legends and device are separated by a simple inner border. The overall die work reflects the provincial engraving characteristic of northern German city coinage of the Kipper und Wipper period. |

| Reverse description | The reverse displays a large Roman numeral III in the upper field, denoting the denomination of three Pfennige, with the date rendered in two digits below, flanked by small ornamental pellets or rosettes at either side. A stylised rose or rosette motif appears both above and below the numeral, serving as decorative separators characteristic of Rostock municipal issues. The entire design is contained within a beaded or dotted inner border, with a plain outer rim. The die work is consistent with hammered copper striking of the period, showing typical flatness and surface irregularity. |
