| Obverse description | The obverse displays the arms of Lübeck as two back-to-back heraldic shields set side by side within the field, each bearing the city's traditional device. The shields are surmounted by an ornate crown or cresting element, lending an air of civic authority. A circular Latin legend surrounds the central device, reading MON. NOV. LUBEC., denoting the new coinage of Lübeck. The flan is irregular and slightly ragged at the rim, consistent with hammered production of this period. The overall style is characteristic of small German billon coinage of the early seventeenth century. |
