| Obverse description | Central device comprising the crowned arms of Saxony, displaying the characteristic barry of ten with a crancelin overall, surmounted by a ducal crown in the upper field. The ducal initials W. H. Z. S. (Wilhelm Herzog zu Sachsen — William, Duke of Saxony) are positioned flanking the shield in the left and right fields. The date 1652 appears in the lower exergue below the shield. The coin exhibits the irregular flan and somewhat rough surfaces typical of hammered coinage of the mid-seventeenth century German states. |
