正面描述 Crowned interlaced cypher of Duke Moritz Wilhelm of Saxe-Zeitz, composed of ornately entwined initials set within a beaded inner circle. The crowned monogram is flanked by small decorative ornaments. The surrounding legend reads M. WILH. D. G. DUX SAX. I. C. & M., denoting the duke's full Latin titulature, and is contained within the milled outer border.

附加信息

Saxe-Zeitz was one of the smaller Ernestine secondary duchies created by the 1657 partition of Saxony, and it survived as an independent entity for barely six decades. Moritz Wilhelm, the third and final duke, died without legitimate heirs in 1718, after which the territory reverted to Electoral Saxony. This 1702 issue falls squarely in his financially troubled later reign, when the duchy was already accumulating debts it would never resolve.

The billon alloy reflects the fiscal squeeze common to these minor Saxon courts — too small to sustain a proper silver coinage, too proud to abandon striking altogether.
