The County of Regenstein was a small territorial holding in the Harz region whose ruling line was already in steep decline by the 1590s — the county would be absorbed by Brandenburg-Prussia within a generation. These Dreier were struck under Count Martin, whose reign saw repeated disputes over succession rights and mounting debt that made even small silver issues financially significant to the county's administration.
The tight date range of 1597–1598 suggests a brief, possibly emergency, minting episode rather than a sustained coinage program.
