| Obverse description | Central field displays the quartered ducal Saxon arms — alternating barry with rampant lion — presented within an ornate baroque cartouche or shield frame. The initials I E and V V (for Johann Ernst and Johann Casimir, the joint dukes) appear divided above the shield in the upper field. The design is characteristic of the small hammered coinage of the Ernestine Saxon duchies in the early seventeenth century. |
