Henry XI ruled Reuss-Greiz from 1723 until his death in 1800, one of the longer reigns among the fragmented Reuss lordships of Thuringia. The Dreier — a three-pfennig piece — was among the smallest silver denominations still being struck by the minor German states in this period, when larger territorial powers were steadily absorbing the coinage rights of such pocket principalities. Reuss itself was divided between the Elder and Younger lines, each issuing independently, which makes attribution of small billon and silver fractions from this period genuinely complex.
