Obverse description Central field displays a quartered heraldic shield bearing the arms of Brandenburg-Franconia, surmounted by a princely crown. The shield is divided horizontally, with the upper half featuring a crowned eagle motif and the lower half containing the Hohenzollern sceptre device. The date 1565 appears to the left of the shield, with the mint mark S to the right. The overall execution is characteristic of mid-sixteenth century German hammered coinage, with an irregular flan and moderate relief.
