| Obverse description | The heraldic lion of Brunswick depicted rampant to the left occupies the central field, rendered in the bold, somewhat crude style characteristic of late 17th-century German municipal coinage. The beast is shown with raised forepaws and a curling tail, its form filling the inner circle. A circular Latin legend surrounds the central device, reading MONE.NOVA.ARGEN., abbreviated from 'Moneta Nova Argentea' (New Silver Coin). The rim is decorated with a continuous border of raised beading. |
