Obverse description The municipal arms of Hildesheim occupy the central field, depicting a double-headed imperial eagle with spread wings displayed, the heads facing outward to left and right respectively. The shield is rendered in the heraldic style typical of late sixteenth-century German civic coinage. Circular pellets or annulets appear flanking the armorial device in the field. The flan is irregular, consistent with hand-struck hammered production.
