| Descrizione del dritto | The coat of arms of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic occupies the central field, depicting a crowned eagle with spread wings grasping a staff, superimposed over a radiant sun and a heraldic shield bearing traditional Armenian motifs. The bilingual legend arcs across the upper portion of the coin in both Latin and Armenian scripts, reading 'NAGORNO-KARABAKH' along the outer rim, with the Armenian inscription 'ԼԵՌՆԱՅԻՆ ՂԱՐԱԲԱՂԻ ՀԱՆՐԱՊԵՏՈՒԹՅՈՒՆ' and the name 'ԱՐՑԱԽ' positioned within the inner arc. The word 'REPUBLIC' appears in the lower field beneath the arms. The overall design is rendered in low relief against a flat field. |

Artsakh — also known as Nagorno-Karabakh — issued its first coinage series in 2004 despite functioning as an unrecognized state, its independence declared in 1991 following a brutal war with Azerbaijan that killed an estimated 30,000 people. These aluminum pieces were never intended as working currency; the dram circulated alongside Armenian coinage, and these issues served a political function as much as a monetary one, asserting statehood through the tangible form of coinage. Few mints would touch the contract.
