| Obverse description | Left portion of the note carries a finely engraved intaglio vignette of Athena in profile, wearing a crested Corinthian helmet with a winged horse motif, rendered in a classical sculptural style. The bank title ΕΘΝΙΚΗ ΤΡΑΠΕΖΑ ΤΗΣ ΕΛΛΑΔΟΣ appears at the upper centre, above the denomination cartouche ΔΡΑΧΜΗ ΜΙΑ set within an elaborate guilloche oval medallion. A multicolour underprint in blue and orange fills the centre field, with the date 21 Δεκεμβρίου 1885 and two manuscript signature lines inscribed below the cartouche, alongside the printer's imprint at the lower margin. |
