Additional information

Visvasimha ruled as a Western Satrap during the twilight of the dynasty, a period when Rudrasimha II and other claimants were competing for authority across the western Deccan and Gujarat. The Western Satraps were already under sustained Gupta pressure by this decade, and silver coinage from the later rulers tends to appear in smaller, more degraded flans as the dynasty's resources contracted. Visvasimha's issues are among the rarer late Satrap drachms, and the JA Delhi reference series remains one of the few systematic catalogs to assign him a discrete type.
