| Reverse description | The reverse bears a bold Early Nagari legend arranged across the central field in two lines, reading 'srimad adi varaha', a royal epithet meaning 'the glorious primeval boar', alluding to the Varaha avatar adopted as the dynastic emblem of the Pratihara rulers. The legend is struck in large, deeply incised characters typical of the developing Nagari script of the 9th century. To the left of the inscription, a crescent and pellet motif is visible, a recurrent subsidiary device on Pratihara silver issues. The overall strike is characteristic of hand-hammered production, with some weakness at the margins of the irregular flan. |
