| Obverse description | Central effigy of a crowned bust facing right, in the style of Sasanian king Khusru I, set within a beaded border. The field is further embellished with three identical countermarks, each depicting a small right-facing bust, applied in an arc around the primary portrait. The countermarks are characteristic of Chaghaniyan regal authority asserting local sovereignty over the Sasanian prototype. The overall composition reflects the hybrid Irano-Sogdian artistic tradition prevalent in the early medieval Oxus region. |
