| Beschrijving keerzijde | Garuda, the divine eagle and vahana of Vishnu, depicted standing facing with wings fully spread, rendered in a frontal hieratic pose typical of Gupta imperial coinage. The field surrounding the figure bears a Brahmi legend reading: Parama-bhagavata rajadhiraja Sri Kumaragupta Mahendraditya, proclaiming the king's supreme devotion to Vishnu and his imperial titles. The design is derived directly from the reverse type of the Western Satraps coinage, adapted to carry the Gupta dynastic and religious iconography. The flan is irregular and the relief is characteristically flat and worn. |
