| Beschrijving voorzijde | Right-facing crowned bust of James VI, depicted with a short beard and wearing armour with an elaborate ruffled collar, the figure rendered in fine relief characteristic of early seventeenth-century Scottish hammered coinage. The crown is of an open imperial form with fleurs-de-lis and crosses pattée alternating along the band. The effigy occupies the full height of the field, flanked by the legend running along the inner border of a beaded circle. The Latin legend reads · IA · D · G · MAG · BRIT · FRAN · ET · HIB · REX ·, proclaiming James as King of Great Britain, France and Ireland by the Grace of God. The coin's irregular flan, typical of hammered production, is visible at the periphery. |
