| Obverse description | Draped bust of Honoré II, Prince of Monaco, facing right, wearing a lace collar and long flowing hair in the baroque style of the mid-seventeenth century. The effigy is rendered in relatively high relief for a hammered issue, with naturalistic facial features and period costume detail. A beaded inner border frames the design, with the Latin circular legend HONORATUS. II. D: G. PRINCEPS. MONOECI distributed around the periphery, reading from lower left. The overall composition reflects the influence of contemporary French and Italian medallic art. |
