| Beschrijving keerzijde | Noah's Ark depicted in left profile, floating upon stylized wavy waters with a rocky outcrop visible to the right, serving as a biblical allegory for the Peace of Ryswick of 1697. Above the ark, a dove in flight to the right carries an olive branch in its beak, symbolizing peace and divine deliverance. The two-word Latin legend NVNTIA PACIS (messenger of peace) is distributed across the upper field flanking the dove. The composition is presented in a wide, open field with a fine milled border surrounding the entire design. |

The Peace of Ryswick, signed in September 1697, ended the Nine Years' War and briefly restored a workable balance of power in Europe — Innocenzo XII threw the full weight of papal diplomacy behind the negotiations, and this doppia was struck explicitly to commemorate that involvement. The coin's legend references the papal role in brokering peace between Louis XIV and the Grand Alliance, a diplomatic achievement the Holy See was eager to memorialize in gold.
Innocenzo XII reigned from 1691 to 1700, a period during which he also issued the bull Romanum decet Pontificem abolishing nepotism in the papal court — a reform that dramatically reduced the flow of patronage wealth that had funded earlier pontificates' more extravagant coinage programs.
