Obverse description Papal coat of arms of Innocent XII (Antonio Pignatelli) displayed on a baroque shield, charged with three covered urns or pignatte arranged two over one, the heraldic charge that gives the family its name. The shield is flanked by elaborate foliate and acanthus scrollwork, surmounted by the papal tiara and crossed keys of St. Peter. The circular legend INNO XII P M A IX runs around the periphery, divided by the tiara device at the top, with the regnal year notation at the base, all within a finely milled border.
