Obverse description The obverse displays the papal coat of arms of Innocent X centered in the field, consisting of a shield bearing a dove with an olive branch — the Pamphilj family emblem — surmounted by the triple tiara (triregnum) and flanked by the crossed keys of Saint Peter, all set within an ornate cartouche with foliate scrollwork. The surrounding beaded border frames a Latin legend reading the pope's name and regnal year. The heraldic composition is rendered in high relief, characteristic of the refined Roman hammered gold coinage of the mid-seventeenth century.
