| Obverse description | Armored and draped bust of Duke Charles Emmanuel I facing right, with a short beard and wearing an elaborate ruffled collar; the ducal mantle with decorative clasp is visible at the shoulder. The effigy is rendered in high relief in the bold Renaissance style typical of Savoyard hammered gold coinage. The bust is contained within a beaded inner circle. The circumferential Latin legend reads CAR. EM. D.G. DVX. SAB. P. P., separated by pellets, identifying the ruler as Charles Emmanuel, by the grace of God Duke of Savoy, Prince of Piedmont. |
