Singapore's Lunar series gold miniatures were produced for the gift and collector market, where the .9999 fineness carries more commercial weight than the nominal face value. The 2010 Tiger issue falls in the third cycle of the Chinese zodiac series, which the Monetary Authority began issuing in the 1990s. At 0.30 g, these were among the smallest gold coins in regular commemorative production globally at the time of issue — a format pioneered largely by Singapore and later adopted by the Perth Mint for similar product lines.
