This dollar was struck to mark the abdication of Queen Beatrix on April 30, 2013 — the third consecutive abdication by a Dutch monarch, following Wilhelmina in 1948 and Juliana in 1980. The Centrale Bank van Curaçao en Sint Maarten had existed in its current form for barely two years at the time of issue, having been established in October 2010 when the Netherlands Antilles was formally dissolved as a constituent country.
