| Additional information |
The Battle of Teutoburg Forest in 9 AD was among the most consequential defeats in Roman military history — three legions under Publius Quinctilius Varus were annihilated by Germanic tribes led by Arminius, a Roman-trained officer who had defected. The disaster halted Roman expansion beyond the Rhine permanently.
Palau has issued dozens of these base-metal, silver-plated novelty dollars under KM references spanning the mid-2000s through the 2010s, targeting the collector gift market rather than numismatic study. Low production cost and thematic subject matter drive the series, not historical scholarship.
