Obverse description The obverse features a high-relief sculptural rendering of the iconic flag-raising at Iwo Jima, depicting six United States Marines straining in unison to plant the Stars and Stripes atop a rocky outcrop. The American flag billows dynamically at the upper center of the field, imbuing the composition with powerful momentum. The legend LIBERTY arcs vertically along the left rim, while IN GOD WE TRUST curves along the upper border. The commemorative dates 1775 and 2025 flank the inscription MARINES in the right field, marking the 250th anniversary of the Corps. The engraver's initials PH (Phebe Hemphill) appear at lower right, with RS at lower left.
