The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA arcs along the left and upper right rim, while THE FEW, THE PROUD curves along the lower border. The motto E PLURIBUS UNUM appears in two lines to the left of the emblem, and the denomination ONE DOLLAR is inscribed to the right, above the Philadelphia Mint mark P.
