The legend LIBERTY arcs along the upper periphery in large widely-spaced capital letters. The motto IN GOD WE TRUST appears in three lines in the lower left field. The date 1971 is inscribed along the lower rim, and the small S mintmark for the San Francisco Mint is positioned just below and to the right of Eisenhower's truncated collar. The overall design is the work of engraver Frank Gasparro. |
