Sierra Leone's 2001 wildlife dollar series was struck by the Pobjoy Mint and issued primarily for the collector market rather than domestic circulation — the country's own currency at the time was the leone, making these dollar-denominated pieces a curious anomaly aimed squarely at foreign buyers. The KM#242.1 designation distinguishes this from at least one die variant in the same series.
