Additional information

Part of the Singapore Town Series launched in 2005, this dollar was issued as the Monetary Authority of Singapore shifted focus toward documenting historic neighborhoods before rapid urban redevelopment erased their street-level character. Thomson Village, a former Teochew settlement along Upper Thomson Road, retained its kampung-era shophouse strip well into the 2000s — a rarity given Singapore's demolition pace. The series itself marked a deliberate departure from the Flora and Fauna coinage that had defined Singaporean circulation issues since 1985.
