Telok Blangah Hill Park sits directly above the former Malay settlement of Telok Blangah, which by the late nineteenth century had become a significant administrative and trading hub under the Temenggong of Johor before Singapore's colonial development pushed the population inland. The park itself was formally gazetted as a nature reserve in 1990, part of the Southern Ridges corridor linking several forested hilltops across the southwestern edge of the island.
This issue belongs to Singapore's long-running park series, which the MAS used systematically through the 2000s to cycle out older coinage designs.
