Sierra Leone has issued commemorative dollars tied to international sporting events since the 1990s, functioning almost entirely as the export numismatic trade rather than domestic circulation pieces. This London Olympics issue was produced for collector sale, not for use within Sierra Leone, where the leone — not the dollar — is the actual currency. The country has no legal-tender dollar denomination in domestic use.
