| Obverse description | The central field displays the coat of arms of Belize, depicting two woodcutters as supporters flanking a quartered shield bearing crossed tools and a sailing ship, surmounted by a mahogany tree. The motto scroll below the shield bears the legend SUB UMBRA FLOREO, with the date appearing beneath in the lower field. The country name BELIZE arcs across the upper field, and the entire design is framed by a wreath of olive branches, with a beaded border encircling the rim. |

Belize gained full independence from Britain in 1981, but this series began in 1974 when the country was still British Honduras — meaning early strikes in this run predate the nation whose central bank issued them. The transition from colonial to independent coinage was handled without interruption, and the same type continued through independence without modification.
The .925 silver version ran alongside a cupro-nickel circulation strike of the same type. Collector demand for the silver was modest at the time; surviving examples in original mint condition are less common than the long run dates suggest.
