Issued in the immediate aftermath of John Paul II's beatification momentum, "Santo Subito" — "Saint immediately" — was the crowd's chant at his 2005 funeral in St. Peter's Square, becoming one of the most recognized spontaneous demands for canonization in modern Catholic history. His formal beatification came in May 2011, meaning this coin was struck in anticipation rather than commemoration. Palau has no Catholic majority to speak of; the issue is purely a collector product, one of dozens of themed pieces the territory licenses to European distributors annually.
