Palau's marine-themed dollar series, launched in 1992, was produced primarily for the collector market and saw virtually no domestic circulation — the republic's actual monetary needs were met entirely by U.S. dollars. KM#274 falls within a long run of issues contracted through foreign minting houses, most commonly the Bavarian State Mint in Munich, which handled much of the series production.
