| Obverse description | Right-facing draped bust effigy of Rutherford B. Hayes, the 19th President of the United States, rendered in high relief with finely detailed hair and full beard characteristic of the subject. The president's name RUTHERFORD B. HAYES arcs along the upper border, while the legend 19th PRESIDENT and the presidential term dates 1877-1881 appear along the lower right rim. The motto IN GOD WE TRUST is inscribed along the lower left field. The portrait, engraved by Don Everhart, is set within a plain inner border against a flat field. |
