Additional information

Jamaica's dollar coinage shifted to nickel clad steel in this period largely as a cost-containment measure — the Bank of Jamaica, like many Caribbean central banks in the 2000s, faced persistent pressure to reduce production costs as base metal prices climbed globally. The transition away from earlier compositions was driven by economics, not design revision.

KM#189 had an unusually long production run for a Jamaican circulation issue, spanning well over a decade without significant modification to the type.
